Khmer New Year 2008 Year of the Rat

It is Khmer New Year and the whole of Cambodia pretty much takes a week off. This can be a real fun time if you are here and you have a hotel, if you aren't here and are traveling around it can be a real nightmare as many Asian are on the move to go home for the holidays. This is also the Thai Song Kran festival period so moving between the two kingdoms overland, and even on cheap flights from Bangkok to Phnom Penh, again can be a real nightmare.

This can also be a dangerous time as many people are drunk and driving around, add to this the water fights and it gets really dangerous. espicaly If tyou are traveling by motorbike as your driver might make a quick turn to avoid getting wet and down you go but at least you didn't get wet, maybe all you did was die, Yes Die around a hundred people will die from motorbike accidents during this holiday.
