American Express credit cards, Asia travel insurance

While traveling cheap in Asia I use planes buses trains and ships and other ways of getting around; I just learned that American Express offers as a free credit card membership benefit travel insurance that covers you on a Common Carrier Conveyance. I have not looked up the exact definition but Common Carrier would be as I understand it any regularly scheduled transportation. For me this is a huge benefit as I am on buses trans and cheap flights on cheap airlines in Thailand China Cambodia Indonesia Bali and the rest of Asia most of the year. For the extra cost of putting this on the credit card would be very cheap travel insurance. The only hiccup that I expect would be the lack of transportation providers that would accept American Express in Asia.

I have never been in an accident in Asia, knock on wood but it makes sense that one of the situations that you are more vulnerable to something major happening is when you are in transit. The majority of Asia cheap flights that I take are on Air Asia, Tiger Air, China Southern & Cebu Pacific all of which have fairly good safety records; only one of them that I remember has had a accident in the last few years that was weather related.

Asian buses in particular are involved in crashes a lot more than is reported. In Cambodia I never sit in the front 4 rows for this very reason as the passing on the law ignored highways results in some pretty horrific head on collisions.
