Hi Fred,
Well. I can't recommend any yet in the lower price range. The one I am
in now is very good and they have an upmarket option too, another
nearby location.
This one is Narin, 125 Street No. 50. 125 Street runs East from the
Orussey Market, a big market in Phnom Pehn. Rates start at $2 for
small dorm, $3/night for a sgl room with fan and shared bath, $4 dbl
with own bath and fan, $6 dbl with Cable TV, $7 to $10 dbl with A/C
and Cable TV - price depends on occupancy. Very clean rooms, big
outside balcony for dining/watching TV/reading etc. No hot water in
rooms (don't need it). No long terrn rates. Very good local and
western style foods, drinks etc. but food prices a little high for
most budget travelers. Room rate varies according to occupancy. They
can do Visas and travel arrangements. One of a large family owned and
operated Cambodia wide group of Guest Houses. Narin Guesthouse is also
very secure and transport to any where in Phnom Pehn is right at the
door, or to travel connections with motorbike taxi and tuk tuk drivers
within the family's extended family. Close to all of Phnom Pehn's
tourist attractions, yet nights are very quiet with 24 hour security
guards on the street due to the Maternity Hospital opposite. Money
Changing nearby as well as Phnom Pehn's best shopping as short
distance away.
I am working here on a short term contract so Narin doesn't quite
fulfill my needs but for travelers it's great. The owner is a high
Cambodian Army Officer and very helpful and very friendly. There is
also his wife and wife and their three children, and many Camodian
family visitors.
Best wishes,
Rodney Higgins
