In Asia when doing currancy convertions at all the different Asian foriegn exchanges places it is real easy to get ripped off on changing money. In different countries there are better places to exchange money that others.
In China any foriegn exchange that listed is going to give you a fair rate. Once you get out of China for the most part they give you a bad rate I think this is becuase it is so hard to move money in and out of China. Also to note is that you need to do your foriegn exchange before you go to immigration as there are no exchanges inside the immiagration security. I got stuck with alot of Yuan becuause of this I had asked and they said that there was a exchange inside the security area.
In Thailand the banks are the best place to get a fair rate. A word of note you are allmost allways going to get ripped of at the borders as they know that you need to change I make a point of getting at least a little money changed before I travel to a new country if possible.
In cambodia you want to avoid the banks and go to the local markets and it difinatly pays to ask manty people before you change if you are doing large ammounts. Curiously in Cambodia you will get a better rate for Thai baht than you can get in Thailand! In Thailand when ever you are changing money they allways convert to Thai baht then do the conversion try not to change money in the airports in Thailand as they are major rips In Singapore and China no problem they give you a fair rate atthe airports.
In Singapore I go to Pacific Exchange and he gives me a very good rate and you can change from one to another currancy with out changing in to SNG dollars. he is located near the Aljuned MRT Station and is a good person to talk about which curriencies are moving up and moving down.
