in the backpacker area affectionatly called the backpacker gehtto there are a zillion options for gusthouses and rooms if theey are on the main drags they tend to be a little more expensive if you dare move into the warrens and you will find some real gems that are real budget strechers in this area do not be affraid to ask for a discount and negotiate hard if you are going to be staying in a cheap guesthouse or room for more than 4 days.
dai Hoang Kim is slightly more expensive but for the amazing views on the top floors it is worth it rooms that have 03 as the last 2 numbers are the best bet for great views there are 27 rooms at this recently upgraded hotel.
Spring house Hotel don't stay surly receptoinist every once in a while it is neccesary to point out a hotel or guesthouse that is uncoopertive or just plain rude to the guests I had a friend that I had talked to in the hotel the night before and the receptions insted that he was not staying here when I knew that we were meeting at the time that I was there. you can bet they would miss a alarm call and say o well.
Saigon you will not need to worry about reservations unless it is Tet for the cheap hotels. Saigon has lots of taxis that were cheap enough if you are in the Main backpacker budget tourist area everything you need is right there all though it was hard to find a proper grocery store you really will not miss it as the food is cheap and delicious. If you see a long line of Viet's at a street stall you can guess that it is good and cheap Watch what they pay with Dong and mimic them. Check your bank statement at a ATM in Vietnam congratulations you are a millionaire! the Pho or do you say FA is awesome!
Dai Hoang Kim Hotel Guesthouse
Very friendly and helpful staff this is biggest building in the area, with great panoramic views from the top floors. Very comfortable but small rooms. almost as small as some of the rooms in Singapore. Air Conditioned with a Elevator and Satellite TV a great location as you are one block in 3 directions from escaping the tourist area and getting into the city. Don't forget the bread crumbs very easy to get spun around in Saigon. Across the street you can find good internet and some good local eats the one place we ate at 3 times try the duck, should cost around $10 USD a great value for the money for a very cheap Saigon hotel . My very favorite rich uncle from California loved this one.
