Budget hotels in Luang Prabang make up the majority of the accommodations in this Laos world Heritage city. Most of them are old houses and villas that have been renovated and had additions added on to them. The central theme for most of them is lots of wood, Beautiful hard woods that would cost a fortune in the west. for the budget hotels that we saw and stayed at for the most part the rooms were of a decent size and had most amenities that you would expect wit the exception of saftey boxes which we like to see in this class of rooms. they did have free wifi that was advertised as broadband that was aduquete for email and some surfing but uploading to You Tube was pretty much out.
We stayed at the Sok Dee which was pretty much in the center of town right on the end of the main strip on the pinisula side of town which is the better place to be in our opinion as you can move around at night.
The town of Luang Prabang is long and skinny with only 3 streets that run the long way with rivers on both sides. The center street is all business and a long night market at night over 1500 meters. In the center of this is the biggest wat there are several others scattered around town also in this center area is a large hill that offers some great vistas and pictures do it early in the day preferabbly on a cloudy day as it is a hike.
