Manila is kind of strange in that they have a lot of budget hotels but the number of cheap hotels in Manila is quite low. Compared to other Asia Budget hotels for the quality of the budget accommodations was more expensive that you would expect. We felt that these hotels should have been less than $30 but most were in the $35 to $50 range for 2 star hotels with no pools or free WiFi we were a bit disappointed.
The pick of the litter for price and amenities for Manila budget hotels was the Las Palmas when we were there a category 2 typhoon was raging so we did not catch them at the time but they were very civil to us.
The rooms were decent sized with all that you would expect from a budget hotel one thing we felt should have been in the rooms but wasn't was a safety box. I for one do not feel comfortable checking valuables into boxes in the lobby of hotels. The beds were large and firm with reading lights and remotes for the TV and Air Con.

The rest rooms were standard with only showers offered.
The Las Palmas has about 100 rooms and is located very close to the Hyatt about 2 blocks to the ocean downtown Manila. Some of the areas around the hotel are quite frankly scary, but it may have been that the reputation of Manila proceeded it. Robinson Department store a huge building is one block away and there are lots of small restaurants in the area to go eat there is also lots of nightlife in the area notably for the guys the LA Cafe with pool tables and sports TV's everywhere it is a cool place to hang out and catch a meal. I ordered the nachos and there was plenty for two or three guys.
