D & D Great pool on the roof with bar and internet. backpackers central the rooms are small and clean with everything that you need the biggest problem for me for Koh Sahn Rd is that the sky train or the metro are a taxi ride away. D & D fills up all the time so you need to get either advance reservations or get there first thing in the morning and be one of the first in line. Seasoned Bangkok travelers often will move off Koh Sahn rd itself One block over is one of the cheapest hotels in Bangkok the Green Guesthouse I like as it is close to the action yet you can get deals on food and stuff that you get overcharged on the main strip. You can also go down closer to the river and there are lots of good hotels you need to just pock your head in a few and you will find something usually pretty quick. Sawadee hotel chain always charges a premium but they also always have rooms that get the job done Cheap Charlies looks to them only for last minute high season everything is booked I am going to sleeping on the street mode if I don't find a hotel room quick
The Strand in Patpong is a little expensive but I just love the way the place is set up they really thought about what they were doing and executed a beautiful small boutique if you like a more risque kind of experience this is the place for you.
Pattaya Cheap Hotels
AA Hotel Cheap Charley makes a beeline for this one every February for his annual convention when he goes to Pattaya because he loves the roof pool overlooking Pattaya Bay the rooms them selves at one time were a 3 star but they have been wore down over the years but it is still a very comfortable place to stay close to walking street and easy to get to the rest of PAttaya and Jontiem he used to stay at the Montien but the baht makes those days only fondly remembered.
Phuket Cheap Hotels
Max's Guesthouse out of the way out on a back soi clean quiet spacious rooms with everything a proper Cheap Charley would want in a room if he was going to hang out for a while.

A little tip for you here buy a metal cup, big is good & a 220 volt heater coil and put it in your travel bag. You can make coffee tea rammen noodles hell you can make spaghetti or rice if you work with it long enough. Maybe I'll do a travel cook book next!
