Dan insurance will not cover the medical bills unless they are dive related but for many being able to get home and into the state health care is a good enough travel benefit to purchase this Travel insurance policy.
We have seen people refused time and again by the hospitals to accept travel insurance in South East Asia, especially Cambodia, Some of the major hospitals like Bumrangard in Bangkok will accept, but for most it is cash only, and then they will fill out the forms with you to get you reimbursed, by your insurance company, which as you can probably guess, will take a bit of time and who by the way will usually require that you provide the translation as well, so get it done where you are here, rather than bringing it home to a surprise translation bill as well.
American Express offers a service where you can cash a emergency check and they will guarantee the check which is better than getting a large cash advance that has the real potential of bankruptcy for you as the rates on cash advances are through the roof often times more than 30 %. If you cannot get approved for American Express Card talk to your parents have them set up a card for you to use as emergency back up.
